Ed Sheeran Confession: Performs Best When Hung Over
Musicians have always been…well…strange and often quite anxious. So, to fight the pressure of fame, they slip a few shots down their throat and let the tipsiness guide them to nirvana.
Ed Sheeran (24) shared the secret to his success, and its performing drunk – or hung over to be more precise.
He realized some way back that he performs best when he’s hung over. So, last summer, just to be on the safe side he was sure to have a wild night before every one of his 3 sold out shows at Wembley Stadium in London, UK.
Usually when people get up hung over they just want to curl up and die and getting out of bed is a feat worthy of a gold medal. So why would Sheeran think that he performs better in that awful state?
“I really don’t know why the best gigs I have ever played have been after a night of heavy drinking,” said the musician in a recent interview. “I think it’s because you walk onstage, you are not complacent, you are not onstage being like, ‘Oh, I have done this a billion times.’ You walk onstage being like, ‘You know, I’m 90% the human I should be, so I’ll make sure I give 115%.’”
His hung over performances at Wembley Stadium were documented in Jumpers for Goalposts, Sheeran’s new concert movie.
The movie premier was on Friday at London’s Leicester Square and it will be screened in only a few selected theaters worldwide. When asked why he wanted to make a concert movie, Sheeran said that he always watched somebody else’s movie on a British Airlines flight, so as he says “I wanted to make a film that I could put on British Airlines flights and have Chinese businessmen like my music.”
Justin Bieber spoke at the premiere of Jumpers for Goalposts, saying “I am a big fan of his work. I am also a big fan of him as a person, I think he’s just easy to talk to, he’s just a cool guy.” The two of them have also worked on a song for Bieber’s upcoming album.
