Fashion Industry Got Its First Plus-Size Male Model
Impossible beauty standards are getting crushed each day with new definitions of beautiful emerging. But when it comes to fashion and beauty standards, we have been talking almost exclusively about women. Until now, that is. 26-year-old Zach Miko is making history by being the first plus-size male model.
With his 6’6” and 240 lbs, a regular guy from New York became the first plus-size model recruited by IMG Models. He has immediately become the face of Brawn, the new IMG division for male plus-size models.
He was discovered thanks to his Instagram, after IMG looked through his adorable photos with his wife and his dog. They loved him and decided it was time to do something different. But this is not Miko’s first modeling gig. He was the face of Target’s big and tall line in 2015.
Miko is thrilled to have been given this opportunity, and he hopes to continue the discussion on beauty standards with his work. “When you are a man my size, it’s never even considered a possibility. So it’s kind of really cool that it has become a possibility and times have changed,” said Miko for WWD.
