10 Greatest Movie Villains of All Time
Actors already know – getting the main part is great, but if you manage to make the whole world hate you as a villain, you know you did a good job. Life needs balance, and so every movie needs its antagonist, someone who will make the lead characters’ life miserable and the audience cringe in their seats. And sometimes, villains become the main reason we love to watch certain movies.
These 10 villains definitely made us hate their guts, but they did it brilliantly:
1. Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs
Many consider Hannibal Lecter the best movie villain ever, and this is the case of a villain becoming the main character. With his excellent portrayal of Hannibal, Anthony Hopkins made The Silence of the Lambs into one of the most iconic movies ever made and he undoubtedly earned his Oscar for the role.
But what makes Hannibal such an epic villain? It is the fact that he is absolutely hypnotic on screen. From the very first scene that includes him, the audience is mesmerized by his relaxed composure, by his eyes that never blink and his, quiet, almost soothing voice. However, it is the contradiction of this image and the things he says that make him truly terrifying. It is not the fact that he bites people’s faces off that make him the perfect villain, it is the fact that he gets into Clarice’s head without a single touch. Even though he is confined for most of the movie, there is a blood-chilling tension where you just have the feeling he could hurt anyone at any moment.
Hannibal Lecter is a pure psychopath and a villain like no other. But you just can’t help rooting for him, which makes it even creepier.
