Forbes Names Johnny Depp Most Overpaid Actor of 2015
It seems Johnny Depp’s glory days are over. Forbes named this actor most overpaid actor of 2015, managing to return only $1.2 for every $1 he was paid.
Depp was pretty busy this year, as every year before that, but his movies didn’t have that much success at the box office. Mortdecai, Depp’s movie that was released in January, took $60 million to make while it earned just $47 million. And Black Mass, where Depp is playing a ruthless criminal Whitey Bulger, also failed to bring any serious profit even though it received favorable reviews by the critics and Depp’s performance praised as one of his best.
Let’s just recall that things were very different for the actor not so long ago when the four Pirates of the Caribbean movies grossed the astonishing $3.7 billion.
Johnny Depp dethroned Adam Sandler, who had held the unflattering title for two years. Alongside Depp, actors that top this year’s list are Denzel Washington who returned $6.5 for every $1 he was paid, and Will Ferrell with $6.8 for every $1.
Depp can only hope that his following movies Alice through the Looking Glass and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales achieve the same success his older movies used to achieve and take him off this list.
