‘Game of Thrones’ Awarded Incredible 24 Emmy Nominations

By  |

After the nominations for the Emmy Awards 2015 have been announced, the hit fantasy drama Game of Thrones is in the absolute lead with an astonishing 24 nominations.

The popular HBO drama is nominated in categories such as those for outstanding drama series, outstanding directing for a drama series, outstanding writing, visual effects, sound editing and many others. But we must mention the actors who also deserved a nomination for a supporting role – Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke and Lena Headey.

Right behind Game of Thrones was American Horror Story: Freak Show with 19 nominations and third place is shared by House of Cards, Mad Men and Transparent, all of which got 11 nominations.

There were some surprises, however.

The Big Bang Theory failed to make it to the list even though it had been nominated every year since 2010. Jim Parsons, the popular Sheldon from the mentioned show, and the highest-paid actor on US television was also left without a nomination. And among the nominations for the best drama series, many expected to see Empire, but that didn’t happen.

When it comes to Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin himself was utterly amazed and thrilled by the number of nominations and congratulated everyone involved in the making of the show.

He did have a reproach or two. He stated he wanted some other actors to get recognition, such as Sophie Turner and Natalie Dormer. And he really wanted to see Hardhome among the nominated episodes. It seems that 24 nominations aren’t quite satisfying for the demanding writer.

But what can we expect from the show in the future?

Season 5 abounded in violence, rape and murder. Every new episode drove fans to swear off the whole show even though we couldn’t have enough of it. And the season finale left us all devastated after doing the unthinkable and robbing us of Jon Snow. Since the show has caught up with George R.R. Martin’s books, we are left in complete darkness. But that also means that everything is possible. The Internet has been holding on to the last bit of hope thinking Jon Snow may even come back to life.

Fans are speculating about the future of the show, and actors have already given us some hints that the next season is going to be mind-blowing. And let’s face it – we wouldn’t want it any other way.
