Cyborgs, time travel, parallel universes, space exploration, aliens, you name it – science fiction has it all.
Dealing with topics that have been fascinating humans for decades, this genre just keeps expanding. And we are here to give you the 10 best sci-fi movies, based on their legacy and originality of ideas presented in modern-day cinema.
1. Star Wars (1977)
Considered a George Lucas cult-classic to this day, the Star Wars movie franchise holds up its value even with the most recent sci-fi flicks crammed with CGI, intricate stories and gorgeous visuals. One of the pioneers of its own time, it set the bar high when it comes to movies creating elaborate worlds and ecosystems of the future.
Star Wars depicts a futuristic society where humans are just another race in a slew of intergalactic nations. It is jam-packed with action, thrill, comedy and romance, but also freely explores the issues of diplomacy, monarchy and politics. The movie follows a young farmer by the name of Luke Skywalker on his journey to fulfill his destiny which had been written before he was born. He finds himself in battle against a power-hungry tyrant, Darth Vader, and he’s fighting alongside a rebel group led by the fearless princess Leia, two daring smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca, and a robotic duo C-3PO and R2-D2.
Despite it having six episodes, the Star Wars series is a fun space adventure with an intelligent weaving of real world problems, and a must-watch (or re-watch) for any movie buff.
