Why Cara Delevingne Backed Out of Acting?
Cara Delevingne, one of fashion’s “It” girls, is slowly making a mark in Hollywood.
Having graced hundreds of catwalks and the pages of Vogue, as well shot campaigns for luxury brands such as Chanel, Dior and Burberry, Cara Delevingne’s star is definitely on the rise.
Why the sudden shift to acting though?
The model’s shift to acting almost never happened, as it has always been the #1 option. Delevingne, who is the daughter of property developer Charles and socialite Pandora Delevingne, cited a difficulty in finding agents as a reason for almost never pursuing acting. The star reveals in an interview with Wall Street Journal magazine:
“I basically gave up on acting because trying to get an agent was impossible. Everyone said ‘You are just a model’, once I had my mind set that I was going to do this modeling thing, I really wanted to beat it, if that makes sense.”
Cara revealed to the magazine that she had always wanted to act and sing, especially since she was 5, when she played the role of the Virgin Mary in her school’s Christmas pageant.
Her agent woes are over as she has since been signed by William Morris Endeavor. Modeling, the profession that has put this firecracker on the map, was never meant to be a long-term thing for Delevingne, who saw her sister Poppy modeling and felt that it would be a great way to fund a gap year she had intended to spend travelling the world with friends.
Within a year of modeling, Cara started closing major deals and the idea of a gap-year was indefinitely put off along with her dreams of being on the silver screen, until recently.
Delevingne has also admitted that modeling was never a passion for her, but acting is. She says the money in modeling is good, but that it limits her in terms of self-expression and the stringent physical standards can be quite exhausting.
“It is awful living in a world where I’ll get a call from someone saying, so-and-so says you were partying a lot and you were looking this way and you need to lose weight. I mean, if you don’t want to hire me, then just don’t.”
Cara Delevingne has appeared in small roles in Anna Karenina and The Face of an Angel, and will be appearing in upcoming movies like Pan, Paper Towns and Suicide Squad.
But will she ultimately be remembered as a successful fashion model or actress is yet to be seen.
