Rihanna’s Best Looks
Like all fashionistas and style icons, Rihanna has taken quite a number of fashion risks. Some of her risks have paid off but some have not. Below are some of Rihanna’s best looks.
2006 CFDA AWARDS, MAX AZARIA
Satin midnight blue gown with an undone updo
The sexy siren from a more innocent time, Rihanna donned an ensemble that was sweet enough for her bubbly personality but provided a preview of the style risk taking she had ahead of her. Her sweet undone updo and light makeup were a perfect match with the backless midnight blue dress.
2009 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS, MARCHESA
Black cut-out dress with light pink lining. Bleached blonde asymmetrical bob
In this dress we see Rihanna’s style risks paying off. The incredibly stunning Marchesa dress features a rather geometrical shape adorned all over with rose cut-outs, showing the pale pink lining underneath. Rihanna prevents the whole look from being too saccharine by pairing the look with edgy asymmetrical, bleached hair.
2010 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS, ELIE SAAB
Sheer and scarlet
In this outfit we see Rihanna in a burgundy color, a departure from the bright prints and colors she usually wore before this dress. The long sleeved dress by Elie Saab is almost completely sheer, except in strategic places. This dress is a reflection of Rihanna’s growing success as an artist as she won the Favorite R&B Artist Award during the 2010 AMA’s.
MAY 2011 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS, MAX AZARIA
This suit just looks so clean, crisp and classy. Not many women can rock this look, but the singer of Only Girl (in the World) certainly can. And say what you want about the singer’s fiery red mane, but it just looks incredibly chic with the white suit. Ri-ri, Max Azaria hooked you up good.
APRIL 2012 TIME 100 GALA, MARCHESA
Satin tea length magenta gown
We don’t often see Rihanna look sweet and demure. Often she is seen in the highest of slits and the quirkiest of accessories. This magenta Marchesa number is further proof of Rihanna’s versatility. She looks absolutely lovely with her long curly black hair, while the burgundy lipstick and diamond accessories make her look almost old Hollywood.
FEB 2012 ROC NATION’S PRIVATE GRAMMY BRUNCH, BOTTEGA VENETA
Looking incredibly chic, cool and relaxed, this pantsuit is one of the classiest ways to go to brunch. Rihanna looks incredibly at ease in a beige pantsuit from the Bottega Veneta resort collection of that year. Edging up her look are a pair of red soled Louboutins.
2012 GRAMMY AWARDS, ARMANI
Sleek and black
This is by far the sexiest of all Rihanna’s looks. She might have shown more skin in other red carpet looks but this really takes the cake when it comes to allure and sophistication. Leave it to Armani to dress a style chameleon like Rihanna and make her look like an absolute movie star. In this dress her body looks athletic, golden and majestic.
2012 MET GALA, TOM FORD
Backless, long-sleeved and crocodile embossed
The dress’ silhouette is flattering but really basic. Tom Ford’s use of crocodile embossed material takes this dress to a whole new level without taking it too far. Rihanna is the perfect muse for this dress. Both classic and out of this world, this work of art of a dress is the perfect thing for Rihanna to wear to the Met Gala.
2013 GRAMMY AWARDS, ALAIA
Red chiffon dress and gorgeous curls
This dress has everything! Well-fitting, a universally flattering shape and in a vibrant color this dress is made for the star who wants to turn heads—and that star is RIHANNA. This dress is so perfectly balanced. The color begs to be noticed, it screams “I am a star!” Yet the willowy layers bring it down to earth by giving it the illusion of being relaxed. The sheerness of the thin layers of chiffon hints of something underneath, showing skin but maintaining mystery.
