12 Celebrities Who Started Out at Not-So-Flattering Jobs
It’s hard to believe that successful celebrities and current millionaires had humble beginnings and dirty jobs. But even though they are accomplished now, they had to work hard for it and it didn’t always look like they would become famous. It kind of gives you hope, doesn’t it?
The fact that you’re a waitress at Burger King right now doesn’t mean you can’t be a star in a few years. Or at least we can always hope so.
These are the 12 stars that really started from the bottom.
1. Jim Carrey
He is one of the most famous comedians of today. He has dozens of blockbusters behind him and everybody recognizes his distinctive facial expressions that are a huge part of his humor. But the popular Ace Ventura had a difficult path to stardom. His childhood wasn’t an easy one as his father lost his job when Jim was only 12. The family had to live in a van for a while and Jim, along with his three siblings had to quit school and find a job. He ended up working as a janitor in a factory, mopping floors and doing night shifts.
He recalls this period as a very traumatic time in his life and he remembers being angry all the time. Can you imagine a 12-year-old working at such a dirty and difficult job? But he didn’t lose hope and kept his optimism. Even though he was utterly unhappy, Jim kept working on his comedy routine.
He started auditioning, and with the support of his family, he finally got the opportunity to prove himself. Starting from open-mic nights, he made a name for himself and started getting more and more recognition. His ticket to stardom came in 1994 with the comedy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
