14 Celebrities with Type 2 Diabetes
1. Larry King
Broadcasting legend Larry King was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the mid 90’s. The diagnosis came as a surprise according to King, who after a heart attack and bypass surgery in 1987 started exercising and eating better. “I was already exercising. I was pretty much watching my diet. So I kind of took it as, ‘Now? Now I get diabetes’”, Larry King said after being diagnosed. The Larry King Live host admitted though that diabetes did run in his family, which is probably why despite the consistent effort on his health and well-being he was still pre-disposed to develop the disorder.
King initially showed no signs of suffering from type 2 diabetes and the condition was discovered during a routine check-up. Larry shares his three-pronged approach to staying on top of his condition: good food, exercise and meds, “Three rules, and none of them are hard”, King added. Nowadays, Larry King opts to eat 6 small and healthy meals a day stating that small frequent feeding makes it easier to manage his blood sugar levels. He also likes to dance and gets at least 30 minutes of exercise daily.
Wise words from Larry King about regular check-ups, “Once you have diabetes, knowledge is a great protector…The more you know, the better off you are.”
